The New York State
Campaign for Mental Health Housing is a statewide coalition
of mental health providers, consumers, family members, housing
developers, social policy experts, legal rights organizations and
concerned citizens dedicated to ensuring that people of all ages
living with mental illness in New York State have access to safe,
affordable housing and the opportunity for an active life in the
community.
We provide information and analysis to the public, media, elected
officials and government administrators about the need for immediate
action to end the mental health housing crisis in New York State. We
believe the next Governor of New York should, in consultation with
all stakeholders, develop a ten year plan to create approximately 35,000
units of new housing and to preserve and reform the approximately
30,000 existing units. The plan should embrace proven models and
pioneer the development of new community-based solutions that
support families, children, and youth.
